Recovery depends greatly on commitment and completion of the program. If a client chooses to withdraw from treatment, our Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) will engage in multiple discussions to help them understand the potential risks and consequences of leaving.

We will also communicate with their sponsor or family. In certain cases, we may advise families to explore involuntary admission through a qualified social worker.

HAWC is a privately operated facility and is not funded by the government. As such, treatment programs incur monthly fees and are not subsidised.

Yes. Upon admission, each client is assessed by a professional nurse and a social worker. If necessary, referrals for psychiatric evaluations are arranged to ensure the client receives appropriate care.

The program does not cover medical assistance for external injuries, illnesses, hospitalisation, dental emergencies, or specialised psychological and psychiatric evaluations. These are the financial responsibility of the sponsor and require pre-approval.

Family contact is structured to support recovery. In the early stages, clients and sponsors may exchange one email per week. Phone calls may be permitted after six weeks, depending on the client’s progress.

Visits are earned through the program and may include day visits, weekend visits, and extended 10-day visits, all designed to encourage healthy family integration.

Personal devices are not allowed during treatment, with exceptions made under supervision for essential tasks like electronic fund transfers (EFTs).

The core focus at HAWC is on recovery. Activities that may disrupt the rehabilitation process are generally discouraged.

However, individual circumstances are considered on a case-by-case basis. Our Bloemfontein facility includes a dedicated training centre offering online learning opportunities for those wishing to continue their education.

We understand that circumstances vary. HAWC offers flexible program durations of 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 9 months, depending on your needs and recovery goals.

The program fee covers accommodation, all meals, and therapeutic services. Additional costs may include personal items, tuck shop purchases, transportation, medication, and excluded medical treatments.

Yes, our team can assist by speaking directly with your loved one to explain the importance of treatment. If voluntary admission is not possible, we may advise families to consult a private social worker to initiate the process of involuntary admission in accordance with South African legislation.

Start by expressing your concerns in a calm and supportive way, and if possible, arrange for testing. If the individual is uncooperative or becomes aggressive, we encourage you to contact the HAWC team for professional guidance and support.
